Bordeaux manager has hinted a possibility of Liverpool rivalling Arsenal in the race for their Brazilian starlet, Malcom.
According to The Sun, Liverpool has joined the chase to sign Bordeaux star Malcom in the January transfer window. Malcom has been in the news since Arsenal have pursued the star throughout this window as a replacement for contract rebel, Alexis Sanchez.
Liverpool are in the market for reinforcement in attack and may look at Malcom to fill the void left by the sale of Philippe Coutinho, who left for Barcelona earlier in the window. Despite having enough strength in their squad to cover the attacking areas, Jurgen Klopp would still want a viable replacement for their former Brazilian.
Malcom, primarily operates from the right side of attack and contributes aplenty with goals and assists, as his record this season suggests. At Bordeaux, he’s been their bright light as the French clubs has struggled in the league. With seven goals and five assists to his name in the league, Malcom could be a valuable player for Liverpool.
The sale of Philippe Coutinho has freed up an attacking position as well as funds, and Liverpool would be keenly looking at a player who could replace their former Brazilian’s creativity as well as goals. This season, Liverpool have been over-reliant on Mo Salah and Sadio Mane; and Malcom could be the man to take some of the goalscoring burdens.
Malcom has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal as a replacement for Manchester United-bound Alexis Sanchez. Wenger rates the Brazilian quite highly, and reports suggest the Gunners are in advanced talks with Bordeaux to sign the 20-year-old. But recent comments by Bordeaux manager, Jocelyn Gourvennec suggest a Liverpool interest as well.
Jocelyn Gourvennec said, “I can’t deny that he’s being followed by a lot of people. With Malcom, I go from day-to-day. He’s committed. He’s a bit like he was in the summer – I wouldn’t say he has been disturbed by it, that’s a bit strong, he’s not disturbed, but he is asking questions.”
“He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical. If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine. If Liverpool wants you to work for them tomorrow, you will go.”
Malcom has attracted the interest from major English clubs as well from German giants Borussia Dortmund. There were also reports about Bordeaux rejecting Tottenham’s early offer for the attacker. But very recently, his agent hinted at a move to Arsenal and many believe he’d end up at the Emirates by the end of January.
With the imminent sale of Alexis Sanchez and the need for Liverpool to replace Coutinho, the race for Malcom is gaining heat and his destination would be clear before the end of the transfer window.
