Manchester United are reportedly closing in on Newell’s Old Boys starlet Luciano Cingolani, with club rep Martin Mackey in talks with the Argentine outfit.

According to Argentine publication Rosario 3, Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated Newell’s Old Boys starlet Luciano Cingolani. The Red Devils are in talks with the Argentine outfit through club rep Martin Mackey in order to strike a deal for the youngster.

It is reported that the club’s academy director Mackey has been directed to scour the possibility of bringing the player over to Old Trafford. Mackey has lodged an enquiry to Newell’s, who are yet to reply to the said enquiry.

The young striker is among a host of prized young possessions for Newell’s Old Boys who the club want to retain at their club. And it seems the Red Devils academy director is also in favour of Cingolani staying put in Argentina for the time being.

Mackey said,“ For Luciano Cingolani, showed interest in Manchester United. When they communicated, it was intended that they say what the proposal they want to do and did not get any. When that happens, the CD will evaluate and from that, he will make the decision that he thinks is necessary, but I do not want him to leave either.”

“No matter what the payment is, I do not want the guys from the inferiors to leave, first-class players are the rules of the game, but not the inferior guys, but I do not earn anything for that money. I can enter, I work for the boys to play at first.”

Newell’s have been hit by a wave of exits from the youth side, with several youngsters switching allegiances due to the absence of any contract between the players and the club, the latest being midfielder Nicolas Castro, who joined Boca Juniors.

As Mackey said, the decision will likely be taken by Cingolani and the young striker’s camp as to whether they want to take up the offer from United right now or if he wants to continue his development at the Argentine club. United would hope it’s the former.
