Transfer News: Valencia eyeing summer move for Martin Odegaard

Real Madrid are reportedly in talks with Valencia over the services of Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard, who is currently on loan at SC Heerenveen.

According to Spanish publication elgoldigital, Real Madrid could be set to renew their business ties with Valencia after a long pause. The clubs are in talks over the transfer of Martin Odegaard come the summer of 2018, with a two-year loan deal touted to be the terms of the contract.

Real Madrid had been angered by Valencia’s decision to sell David Villa to Barcelona, which has seen Los Blancos refuse to do business with the club for any player at all. And the recent dealings also agitated the situation with Andre Gomes also moving to Barcelona.

However, Martin Odegaard could see the ties being renewed, with Valencia very much interested in taking the player aboard once his Heerenveen loan ends. The Norwegian wonderkid had arrived at Real Madrid amidst much fanfare. But, he failed to establish himself at Los Blancos and seemed to be fading away.

But, the loan move to Heerenveen has worked wonders, with the player finally able to resume his development into the superstar he has always been touted to become. While he is yet to directly contribute to a goal or an assist at the Eredivisie club, his performances have seen a remarkable improvement to the last couple of seasons.

And while Odegaard will be looking to improve more till the end of the 2017-18 campaign, he is unlikely to find a place for himself in the Real Madrid locker room just yet, which is where Valencia are hoping to come in.

The club has already started off strong and look set to return to their former stature in Spanish football, albeit gradually. Valencia chairman Peter Lim wants to sign Odegaard from Real Madrid on loan for two seasons in the summer, which would benefit all the parties involved.

Valencia would receive a cost-friendly valuable addition to their attack while Real Madrid would be able to map the youngster’s improvement and adaptability in Spanish top-tier to judge whether he is ready for first-team football at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are unlikely to listen to a permanent transfer for Odegaard, with the club fully aware of the potential the player possesses. Thus, the loan deal will be the perfect piece of business for all three parties and it will be interesting to see if the move does happen, part of which may hinge upon Odegaard’s displays.
