Former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is training with Burnley after Tom Heaton’s horrific injury against Crystal Palace last weekend.

As reported by The Mirror, Anders Lindegaard has been taken on trial by Sean Dyche after 31-year old goalkeeper Tom Heaton collided with his own defender, Ben Mee, and landed awkwardly on his shoulder. The moment he made contact with the deck, it looked to be a serious injury, and it has turned out that way.

Ex-Charlton star Nick Pope, who joined Burnley in 2016 from Charlton Athletic, replaced Heaton at Turf Moor for the rest of the game, and it was confirmed at the end of the game that Heaton was due for surgery. The surgery went well, but the Chester-born goalkeeper is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three to four months.

As Sean Dyche looks for goalkeeper replacements, he has eyed former United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard. The Dane joined Manchester United in 2010, but after making just 29 appearances for the Red Devils (including 19 in the Premier League), he moved to West Brom in the summer of 2015.

With the Baggies, he could manage to get just one league cup tie under his belt, and then moved to Preston on loan in the second half of the 2015/16 season. But his time at Deepdale was not very different from his previous two club stints, as he could make just six appearances for the club last season, and has been looking for new employers ever since.

Burnley’s other goalkeeper is Adam Legzdins, 30, who was Birmingham’s third-choice keeper last season. And while Nick Pope would be the natural replacement, Burnley lack experience in the goalkeeping department where Lindegaard can come extremely handy for Sean Dyche.

Dyche confirmed that Lindegaard had been training with the team for a day, and admitted that he needs three goalkeepers at his disposal.

Burnley have made a decent start to their campaign, taking seven points from their first four games, and Dyche will not want the injury to Heaton turn into a setback for his side. Besides, the 33-year old is a free agent after Preston released him at the end of last season, so Dyche has little to lose as he looks to give Lindegaard a short-term deal.
