Long-time Manchester United target Ivan Perisic has reportedly been offered a bumper €4.5 million-a-year deal to stay back with Inter Milan.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, Ivan Perisic will be offered a bumper €4.5 million-a-year deal to stay at Inter Milan which will jeopardize Manchester United’s efforts in landing the Croatian winger. Although Luciano Spalletti was understood to have accepted Perisic’s exit, the new deal will now see him continue at San Siro.
Ivan Perisic has had an illustrious career over the past decade and has blossomed into an exciting forward while playing for Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, and has only improved further after joining Inter Milan two years ago.
Perisic has been one of the key components for Inter Milan last season. The Italian club might have had to endure a frustrating 2016-17 campaign in Serie A, but the Croatian winger was a silver lining, as he recorded 11 goals and ten assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
At the beginning of the transfer window, signing Perisic seemed like a good move for United since Jose Mourinho seriously lacked players who could add width in his side. However, the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic combined with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku has somewhat diminished the club’s need to sign an attacker.
Moreover, the upturn of form shown by Anthony Martial has also given the Manchester United boss some cause for optimism. The pre-season games looked extremely encouraging and the Red Devils have managed to fare well since then.
United are currently standing tall at the top of the table, and much of that has to be attributed to the changes made in the team over the summer, which is clearly reflecting positively in their performances. Moreover, Mourinho has Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard to choose from to occupy positions behind the central striker.
That being said, Perisic would have been an ultimate signing before. But right now, United honestly do not have as much of a requirement. Things are clearly working out for the Croat at his current club in Italy and with the revamped offer, it will be ideal for him to continue with Inter Milan.
