Juventus are reportedly interested in Liverpool’s Emre Can and will continue their pursuit of the midfielder in January

According to a report by The Sun, Juventus intend to continue their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can in January. Can has been an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield over the past year, but his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2018, without any reports of a renewal.

The fact that he has not signed a new contract yet has attracted a lot of attention from Europe’s top clubs. However, the Italian champions are believed to be in pole position for Can. Their attempts were rebuffed this summer, but they are believed to be close to securing a deal for the midfielder in January.

Liverpool signed Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen back in the summer of 2014 for £10 million. The 23-year-old German international has recorded 40 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2016/17 season, and Liverpool will hope the player decides to ink a new long-term deal at Anfield.

An injury to captain and fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson did provide Can with a good chance to truly establish himself, which he did. The Reds look like a formidable squad right now, player is an indispensable part of the squad right now.

However, he did face a fair amount of criticism from the fans for the initial part of the previous season due to his lacklustre performances and his alleged demand for an increase in wages. All that changed once Can started performing better and now fans are believed to want him to stay.

He especially blossomed in Jordan Henderson’s absence and has taken up the responsibility with grit and power supported by all-action performances.

As far as Juventus are concerned, their squad is perfectly balanced at the moment, but Massimiliano Allegri will be looking to add cover in the midfield come next season.

Quite possibly, the German midfielder might have to take up a less important role at Juventus considering they already have players like Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira. He might even have to be satisfied with lesser playing time – something Can will have to reflect upon.

Meanwhile, Klopp has also signed the young Naby Keita and 19-year-old Dominic Solanke from Chelsea. Retaining Can will be priority but if he chooses to leave, Klopp will need to line up some reinforcements.
