Jose Mourinho has nearly a fully fit squad at his disposal as Manchester United face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
Manchester United will provide Jose Mourinho the pleasure of having a fully fit squad to choose from, for the second consecutive match. The usual suspects like Ashley Young, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo will remain sidelined, but Mourinho did provide an update on Young and Shaw.
He confirmed in the pre-match press conference on Friday that Luke Shaw and Ashley Young will ease back from their injury by playing for the Under-23s on Monday night, which will leave Marcos Rojo as the only player currently sidelined.
“Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season. It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back].”
The Portuguese manager remained optimistic, but also heaped praise on Paul Clement. “He saved the team. The team was in a difficult moment and they stayed in the Premier League. They did well to do that. One point away against a good team like Southampton is a very positive result for them so I am waiting for a difficult match.”
Meanwhile, Swansea have revealed that top scorer Fernando Llorente will remain absent after the Spanish striker missed pre-season, and also the stalemate against the Saints with a broken arm. Midfielders Ki Sung-Yeung and Nathan Dyer are also injured, while Gylfi Sigurdsson has completed his move to Everton on a five-year deal.
Since Llorente will be sidelined, Tammy Abraham would lead Swansea’s attack once again. As far as the midfield situation is concerned, Tom Carroll and Leroy Fer are set to continue with their attempts to fill the massive void left by Sigurdsson.
This could leave them in a tough spot, especially against a well-rounded team like United, with seemingly no injury concerns. While the team did manage to hold their own against Southampton, Clement will be his squad puts their best foot forward this Saturday.
