Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a move that could see Zlatan Ibrahimovic return to Manchester United – but as a coach this time.

According to a report by The Independent, Zlatan Ibrahimovic could return to Manchester United as a coach once he finishes his playing career. The report further goes to state that the possibility has been discussed already over talks regarding a potential contract.

Ibrahimovic is yet to completely recover from a serious knee injury that he sustained during the Europa League match against Anderlecht back in April. Although the Swede exited the club, it is believed that he is still keen on playing for a few more years.

But, once he calls it a day, Mourinho is keen to keep a player as influential as Ibrahimovic as a coach. The 35-year-old enjoyed a brilliant season with United, scoring 28 goals in 46 appearances, before the injury saw put a premature end to his campaign.

Post recovery, staying back with United does not seem like an option since the club signed Romelu Lukaku, and the former Everton striker has been putting up impressive performances for the club. If Ibrahimovic re-signed, his role could significantly reduce.

Additionally, considering his age and uncertain recovery time, it is doubtful as to whether he will be able to maintain his form in the fast-paced world of the Premier League, although he has put similar doubts to rest earlier as well.

The Swede has enjoyed an illustrious career over the years in several of the biggest clubs in Europe. Certain reports suggest that Ibrahimovic could be well on his way to join the legendary Italian club again. He was also being targeted by LA Galaxy before his knee injury, but with an interest from Milan, he is likely to prefer choosing a move to Italy.

AC Milan have been racking up reinforcements and are poised to make a strong comeback in the upcoming season – something similar to their previous lethal form. Once Ibrahimovic recovers, he can prove to be an ideal addition to the squad.

The offer to return as a coach to Manchester United is likely to seem enticing for Ibrahimovic. During his time with the club, he did manage to establish healthy relationships with players like Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Ibrahimovic is quite an influential player, thus making it beneficial if he returns as a coach. However, it remains to be seen if he returns to Old Trafford as a player as well, once he completely recovers from the knee injury.
