Liverpool are reportedly set to launch an attempt to replace Philippe Coutinho with Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri in a £36 million move.

According to a report by The Sun, Liverpool are eyeing a £36 million move for Jean-Michael Seri as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Seri has been an Arsenal target for quite some time now, but Jurgen Klopp is understood to be keen on a move after failing to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.

It is believed that Liverpool have made contact with Nice officials to express their interest and enquire about Seri’s availability. Despite the player attracting the attention of so many big clubs, Nice are in no hurry to part ways with Seri, especially after selling full-back Dalbert Henrique to Inter.

However, they will relent if they receive a good offer. The Ivory Coast international spiraled to fame after becoming a key figure for Nice last season. Seri was one of the stars in Ligue 1 last season as his side secured Champions League football for the first time while he bagged seven goals and nine assists.

Seri’s performances for Nice saw him establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe. The club finished third in Ligue 1 while Seri received a lot of praise for his crucial displays. Arsenal and Tottenham were believed to be in a tight race to land the Ivorian

And now, Liverpool are also set to join the race for the player. The 26-year-old will not only be a cheaper alternative, but also fit in to Klopp’s side a lot quicker, having already been in competitive action this campaign in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

At 26, Seri still has his best years ahead of him, making him worth the billing. His boundless energy and ability to chip in going forward would also make him a perfect fit for Klopp’s system. If Klopp wants to strengthen all aspects of his side however, Seri may well be the answer.

Additionally, the talented midfielder has also proven to be an all-rounder in his performances for Nice, thus making him a solid addition to Klopp’s side. His playmaking abilities could also help the Reds offset the loss of Philippe Coutinho, who looks set to join Barcelona.

It now remains to be seen if the Liverpool boss finally succeeds in his pursuit to sign a midfielder this summer, having already faced disappointment in his bid to sign Keita.
