Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly being targeted by Antalyaspor as the Englishman is believed to be free to leave the Emirates stadium this summer
According to a report by Daily Mail, Turkish club Antalyaspor are keen on signing Jack Wilshere from Arsenal this summer. Wilshere has not been short of offers and clubs like Everton, West Ham and Newcastle did register their interest but nothing materialized so far.
The player is currently recovering from a broken leg sustained during the last few weeks of the previous season and has not joined Arsenal in their pre-season tour of Australia and China.
Arsenal did offer Wilshere several chances to prove himself but his constant injuries have never allowed him to truly flourish. That seemed to have changed at the beginning of last season as he finally managed to make a mark after years of suffering from injuries at crucial points which has hampered his potential.
The time that he spent at Bournemouth was quite fruitful for the 25-year-old. He was at his resurgent best and appeared for the Cherries in almost all matches except the ones they played against Arsenal.
What was the most noticeable about Wilshere last season was the fact that he did particularly well at the centre of Bournemouth’s attacking moves and linked defence with attack effortlessly while making incisive passes to create several chances for the forwards.
He does have a special quality with the ball since he can dribble as a holding midfielder to attack central defenders. He has the required quality to keep passing and then immediately destroy the defensive structures.
Wilshere does not lack talent and that explains Antalyaspor’s interest in him despite him suffering from an injury. Although the midfielder might personally prefer to stay back with the Gunners, a move to join the Turkish club can actually benefit him since he will have the scope to experiment and secure regular playing time there.
Arsenal were subjected to a humiliating campaign last term and Arsene Wenger is aware of the fact that he needs players with proven skills and unfortunately cannot afford the luxury of retaining players in hopes that they will do well in their own time.
Wilshere could easily fall further down the pecking order if he chooses to stay back, which would eat away his time on field and he is at an age where he needs to clock as many playing minutes as possible, especially with the World Cup set to take place next season.
