Arsenal will reportedly turn their attention to Celtic striker Moussa Dembele as a possible replacement for Alexis Sanchez if he leaves this summer

According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has recognized Celtic star Moussa Dembele as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez as the Chilean is set to make an exit this summer.

Wenger has fought hard to retain the former Barcelona man and offered a new contract with better pay as well, but it might all result for naught since Sanchez has made it clear that he wants to play Champions League football next season. However, there’s still hope for the club as Wenger is now keen on signing Moussa Dembele.

The 21-year-old put up fierce performances for Celtic last season and became one of the most talked-about young talents in the game. He recorded 32 goals and nine assists in 49 games and Wenger will be hoping the Frenchman can channel some of that energy if he plays for Arsenal next season.

When it comes to Dembele, it is not just about the numbers but the striker’s performance on a whole. He has rightfully gained attention from the Gunners this summer. He is accurate in front of the goal and is adept at converting chances into goals.

Arsenal have signed Alexandre Lacazette but they will need another quality forward if they are to lose Sanchez. The wantaway striker has not joined the Gunners for the pre-season tour with the rest of the squad, since he has been given a bigger break after the Confederations Cup, further fueling rumours that he will exit the club soon.

Wenger signed him back in 2014 for £35 million from Barcelona and it is likely that the striker misses winning big trophies. The FA Cup and Community Shield are all the north London have been able to offer so far and they endured an embarrassing season last term wherein they missed out on the Champions League qualification as well.

Signing Dembele will be an ideal move only if Sanchez leaves the club. Wenger is unlikely to waste money on signing a third forward since Lacazette and Sanchez are more than capable enough to lead the front line. However, the French manager will possibly focus on convincing Sanchez to stay more than trying to find a replacement.
