Transfer News: Mohamed Salah set for Liverpool medical soon

Liverpool look set to land their second signing of the summer with Mohamed Salah’s arrival seemingly imminent and a medical could happen soon.

There has been a lot of talk around the Mohamed Salah to Liverpool transfer but little action over the course of the last month. But according to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds may actually end up finalizing a transfer for the player very soon.

According to James Pearce, Liverpool and AS Roma are on course to reaching an agreement over Salah in terms of transfer fee and wage structure and while a date for the medical isn’t finalized either, it is expected to be completed by the end of the ongoing week.

Liverpool’s initial bid was for £34million with the Serie A outfit demanding close to £40million. The compromise is likely to be around the £35million mark.

Salah, who is currently on holiday in his homeland, could become the Reds’ club record buy – an honour which has been held by Andy Carroll since his £35million switch from Newcastle United in 2011.

Sources in Egypt added further meat to Salah’s impending move by confirming that the player was set to fly from Cario to London on Tuesday evening in a bid to complete the procedure at Liverpool.

It’s been a frustrating transfer window for the club’s supporters with the Virgil van Dijk circus and the inability to complete a swift deal for any of their supposed transfer targets.

Gelson Martins, Naby Keita, Michael Keane, Ben Gibson are just a few of the names sounded out as transfer targets by the Reds and there has been little progress on that regard so far. And we haven’t even got to the left-backs.

Therefore, the completion of the Salah transfer will be a major positive and will set the tone nicely for Liverpool going forward in the transfer window. The Reds played some good attacking football last season but their atrocious level of inconsistency and inability to put away the small teams meant they wouldn’t challenge for the title.

And a significant factor behind that was a thin squad with players on bench often not as equipped to replace the ones on the regular first team. That’s precisely the reason why the ongoing transfer window is very important for Jurgen Klopp as far as accumulating an attractive pool of proven talent is concerned.

The Reds are headed for Champions League qualification and regardless of their success or failure in that game, they will have to brace themselves for European football. And if the 2015-16 campaign, where Liverpool made it all the way to the Europa League final, was any indicator, things don’t come easy for a thin squad.

So Mohamed Salah’s arrival could definitely herald a sign of things to come in the transfer window and should enable Klopp to switch his attention to other areas of the park, particularly left-back where his side are being linked with a transfer for AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy.
