Arsenal are reportedly plotting a move to land Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina for £20 million and have also submitted an offer for the same.
According to a report by Tuttosport, Juventus are set to sell their midfielder Mario Lemina for £20 million this summer and Arsenal are believed to be in hot pursuit.
Wenger has been determined to sign quality players this time after getting a two-year extension on his contract as the Arsenal manager. Last season, they barely limped to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League and even failed to qualify for the Champions League, drawing major flak from fans. But, the Frenchman is set to change that.
Lemina has been a squad player for Massimiliano Allegri and also appeared as a sub in the Champions League final. But, the midfielder is now looking for a bigger role, and Arsenal are looking to offer him exactly that as Arsene Wenger gets ready to spend big ahead of a stronger title push next season.
The Gabon international made just 29 appearances across all competitions last season, and if the deal does go through, Arsenal can utilize the player as a Francis Coquelin replacement since he is rumoured to move out of the Emirates stadium this season.
Lemina is quick and very light on his feet which allows seamless transition from playing defensive football to a sudden counter-attack. The way he gets up and down the pitch shows that he has a lot of stamina and is athletic enough to endure long runs without tiring down.
However, the arrival of a central midfielder will make life tough for Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla. Wilshere is linked to a move outside the Gunners since he is aware that first-team opportunities at the Emirates will be limited. Additionally, his contract also expires after next season.
Cazorla, on the other hand, has been unable to remain fit over the last couple of seasons. It is unsure as to how he will proceed from this point since he is a quality player but his list of growing injuries is a concern.
Even though Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are rumoured to exit Arsenal this season, it does seem a bit odd that they are focusing on building the central midfield area when they really need a strong striker and a right-back on priority.
The Gunners already have plenty of midfield options at their disposal – the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Calum Chambers and Krystian Bielik, and bringing in another player in that area might not be the best move.
