Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Girondins Bordeaux forward Gaetan Laborde, who could be available on the cheap.
French publication La Depeche Du Midi are claiming that Liverpool are genuinely interested in Girondins Bordeaux forward Gaetan Laborde. Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his frontline ahead of the season and is keeping a keen eye on the striker, who has had a good campaign for the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 23-year-old is a product of the Bordeaux academy and was sent on loan in previous seasons to gain invaluable first-team experience at other clubs before making his mark in the first-team setup at the club this season. The striker has been able to lock down a regular place for himself at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.
While the player managed to amass just 13 goals and 5 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions – underwhelming returns – he has more than made up for it in terms of his work-rate and is thought to be a real manager’s delight, something that will bode him well in the eyes of Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool’s frontline problems are nothing new. Daniel Sturridge looked to be the solution post-Fernando Torres. But, the Englishman’s injury woes have kept him from being a regular fixture under Klopp while the other strikers have failed to impress.
Divock Origi has been involved regularly under Klopp. However, the Belgian is not seen to as a forward capable of leading the Liverpool frontline just yet.

Gaetan Laborde, though, is another player with huge potential. And while Jurgen Klopp may believe that he will be able to make the striker more prolific, what Liverpool currently need is an established name upfront, and not another promising prospect.
The 23-year-old will be available on the cheap, despite the fact that he has 3 years left on his Bordeaux contract. And, he may just be looked at by Liverpool as a player to add depth to the frontline while also scouring the market for a world-class striker to lead the frontline.
It will be interesting to see how the transfer market develops at Anfield.
There have been no reports of any exits but the club has been linked to the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Gelson Martins and Douglas Costa. The club returns to Champions League football and the fans would be hoping Liverpool correct their mistake from the January transfer window.
Laborde’s penchant to track back and contribute on both ends of the field along with the ability to be an integral part of the buildup could very well see him end up at Anfield this summer.
