Manchester United are reportedly interested interested in Werder Bremen superstar Max Kruse in the pursuit of a striker this summer.

Goal have suggested that Manchester United’s search for a central striker has brought them to the Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen superstar Max Kruse emerging on the club’s radar. The player is being eyed by Mourinho after news of Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban being upheld have put their pursuit of Griezmann in doubt.

Max Kruse has been a journey in the true sense of the word. The player, though, has spent his entire career in Bundesliga, starting TSV Reinbek academy before switching as many as 7 clubs before returning to Werder Bremen, the club that gave him his first senior start of his career.

The player has not disappointed on his return either, with 15 goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances, along with 7 assists – a tally that included a streak of 11 goals in 11 games – a run that has caught Mourinho’s attention as the Portuguese seeks the addition of a central striker to support Marcus Rashford upfront.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hinted at a possible stay at Manchester United. However, despite his remarkably rapid recovery, the player is still a good few months away from being fit to play and given United’s re-entry into Champions League football, Mourinho needs a potent goalscorer to support the prodigious Englishman.

Manchester United were rumoured to be very close to sealing an agreement to sign Antoine Griezmann. However, Los Rojiblancos’ transfer ban has been upheld and the Frenchman’s cryptic message on social media platform – a phrase that translated to ‘Now More than Ever’ – is likely to put an end to the saga for the summer, at least.

Kruse, at 29, could be tempted by the prospect of playing for a club of the stature of Manchester United and under Jose Mourinho, arguably one of the best managers of the present generation. The temptation to win silverware could also turn the German international’s head.

Kruse is one among many under consideration by the Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as part of the summer overhaul plan, which has been communicated by Jose Mourinho. And while there are others on the list, Kruse’s form alone could catapult him above others on the priority list.

The player is contracted till 2019 and with only 2 years left on his current deal, the 29-year-old could be available on the cheap. Kruse, though, could have doubts about adjusting to a new league at this stage of his career, having played his entire career in Germany.

The illustrious nature of the league, though, is hard to look away from and while Kruse has managed to stay aloof of it up until now, the striker could well be on the move in the summer.
