Manchester United number one David de Gea has reportedly made up his mind to stay on at Old Trafford.

According to Rebecca Louise Coles of The Sun, Manchester United are confident of keeping hold of their number one goalkeeper David de Gea in the summer amid growing interest from Real Madrid.

The La Liga giants have been in for the player for a long time and could have signed him a couple of summers back, but failed to get the job done in time on deadline day which saw the Spaniard remain at Old Trafford.

However, they now seem keen on signing him once again, and until a few weeks earlier, it looked likely that de Gea could make the move as Manchester United endured a tumultuous campaign in the Premier League and finished outside the Champions League qualification spots.

Things have improved on that front, as United won the Europa League by beating Ajax in the final, and have now qualified for next season’s Champions League. De Gea did not play in that game, but the result of it may play a key role in deciding his future at the club.

The Old Trafford faithful would undoubtedly be delighted by keeping hold of the Spain international as he has often come to the rescue of their team due to the under performing defence ahead of him.

It even saw him win the Player of the Season award on a couple of occasions – just showing how important he has been to the team. De Gea seems content with life in Manchester, and may not want to go back to Madrid.

United manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the Spaniard will travel with the team for their pre-season tour in the United States of America, and will feature in the game against Los Angeles Galaxy in June.

De Gea’s deputy keeper Sergio Romero, who has impressed in his stead, has claimed that he will fight to become the number one should the Spaniard leave, and his performances this season back up his claim.

The Argentina number one has seldom showed any signs of nerves between the sticks for United this campaign, and has won over the undying trust and support of Mourinho. The Portuguese manager will undoubtedly be delighted at the thought of having two top drawer keepers in his first team.
