AS Roma are reportedly joining a host of interested suitors in Liverpool, Juventus, Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Sampdoria forward Patrik Schick.
There is a lot of interest surrounding Sampdoria’s 21-year-old starlet Patrik Schick following an impressive 2016-17 campaign where the Czech international netted 13 goals, with 3 assists to his name.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma is the latest to be linked with the striker with the club’s Sporting Director including them in the race to acquire the player’s signature this summer.
The striker’s agents, Pavel Paska and Bruno Satin, have reportedly made contact with the Italian club and have also quoted interest from Juventus, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
However, Turin is expected to be the most likely destination for the Czech as his agents’ connection to Pavel Nedved has reportedly strengthened Schick’s desire to move to the Old Lady.
Apart from Juventus, there has also been interest from Inter Milan in the Serie A but with no Champions League football to offer its unlikely that the player will consider a move there this summer.
Schick has shined for Sampdoria since moving from FC Bohemians following a breakthrough season where he starred for the first team on 27 occasions and scored 7 goals as a teenager.
His performances at club level eventually earned him a call-up to the National team last summer and has since made three appearances for Czech Republic with a goal to his name.
After the retirement of club legend Francesco Totti, Roma have been on the look-out to sign reinforcements up top in a bid to compete in the Champions League and end their trophy drought on the domestic circuit.
They have reaped the fruits of Edin Dzeko’s record breaking goal-scoring exploits in the Serie A last season but they’ve had no silverware to show for it. Hence it’s no surprise that Spalletti is looking to strengthen his squad further ahead of the next campaign.
The Giallorossi haven’t won any silverware since their Coppa Italia triumph in the 2007-08 campaign. Their last Scudetto dates further back sixteen years ago to the 2000-01 season.
The departure of Francesco Totti will have spelt the end of a glowing era in the club but Spalletti’s side need to mark the new one with trophies and silverware and their investment in players of the likes of Patrik Schick is a positive step in that direction.
Liverpool need an able striker up top if they are to improve on their fourth placed finish in the Premier League while also being able to compete in the Champions League as well. Daniel Sturridge’s injury woes have no signs of improving and Klopp will need to add a striker he can rely on.
They will have fierce competition though with all of the other competing clubs having Champions League football to offer as well. Therefore, at the end of the day it could all boil down to who is able to match Schick’s release clause of €25 million – an amount Liverpool are reportedly ready to meet in order to land the Serie A striker.
