Max Allegri has dented hopes of the Arsenal and FC Barcelona faithful by reportedly agreeing to an extension at Juventus

According to Alvise Cagnazzo of the Sun, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has agreed to a contract extension at the Juventus Stadium. The club hierarchy have been impressed by his leadership, and have reportedly tied him down until the end of the 2019/20 season.

He has also been given the option of extending it by another 12 months, which would see him remain at the club until May 2021. Allegri has won six major titles since taking over the Old Lady, and also guided them to the Champions League final in his first season in charge of the club.

This season has arguably been his best one at the helm, as his side have been almost seamless in domestic as well as European competitions. Juve sit eight points clear atop the Serie A table with five games to go, and are also three wins away from lifting the Champions League.

Due to his supreme man-management skills and tactical prowess, he has been regarded as one of the finest head coaches in the modern age, and has been linked to a number of European heavyweights.

La Liga giants Barcelona have endured a topsy-turvy campaign under the tutelage of Luis Enrique this season. They have been knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus, and are playing catch up in the race for the La Liga crown.

Despite having beaten Real Madrid over the weekend, their arch rivals still have a game in hand over them as the two are level on 78 points. Enrique has decided to leave his post come the end of the season, and Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli is the favourite to replace him.

However, the Argentine is understood to be extremely interested in taking up the head coach role of the Argentina national side. Edagardo Bauza was relieved of his duties due to the country’s poor performances, and Sampaoli is among the contenders to take up the job.

For Arsenal, however, things are a lot more complicated. While the general consensus among the Gunners faithful is that Arsene Wenger should leave the club, it is uncertain whether or not he will.

According to him, he has made the decision, but is not willing to inform the press or anybody outside the club. He is believed to have signed a two-year extension, which if true, would quash away rumours linking Allegri to the Arsenal job.
