Arsenal have made contact with Massimiliano Allegri over a summer move, according to reports
According to the Sun, Arsenal are in talks with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri over a move to the Emirates this summer, as Arsene Wenger’s future at the club continues to be shrouded in mystery.
Wenger has refused to comment on his plans for the future despite the fact that he claimed he already knew what he was doing last month and this has apparently caused tensions among the Arsenal board, who have begun sounding out potential replacements.
The Arsenal manager has come under intense criticism this season after his side crumbled in the Champions League and Premier League once more and fans have begun protesting and organising marches to express their desire for the legendary Frenchman to leave the club.
Massimiliano Allegri has been linked with the Emirates hotseat for months now and if the Sun are to be believed, Arsenal have now stepped up their pursuit of the 49-year old Juventus manager with a view to bringing him to London in the summer.
Allegri’s has built himself a solid reputation ever since taking over at AC Milan, where he guided the club to the 2010-11 Serie A title and then did an impressive job with their young squad despite the fact that several veterans such as Andrea Pirlo left the club.
He has also done an impeccable job with Juventus, overseeing the rebuilding of the side while leading them to consecutive Italian Serie A and Coppa Italia trophies since taking over in 2014, as well as finishing runners up in the 2015 UEFA Champions League final.
Allegri only added to his already burgeoning reputation with a tactical masterclass against Barcelona on Tuesday night, when Juventus cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Catalan giants in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter final tie.
The Italian admitted earlier this year that he had been taking English lessons, which could be taken as an indicator that he is preparing for a move to England but he has also been linked with the soon-to-be vacant job at Barcelona.
Reports emerged last month that the Italian himself preferred a move to Barcelona but given the Catalans tendency to appoint managers from within their own ranks or country over the last few years, they could choose to pursue other targets.
It is still unclear whether or not Arsene Wenger will sign a new contract at Arsenal but should the Frenchman decide to leave, there is no doubt that Allegri will be high on the Gunners’ list of potential replacements and if the Sun are to be believed, the wheels have already begun turning over a potential deal this summer.
