Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly both showing interest in AS Monaco custodian Danijel Subasic, who could be set for a summer move

Italian publication Calciomercato are claiming that AS Monaco custodian Danijel Subasic could well be heading to the Premier League in the summer. The player is on the radar of Arsenal and Liverpool, who are both eyeing goalkeeping additions to their roster for the new campaign.

Danijel Subasic arrived at AS Monaco in January, 2012 in a low-money move from Croatian side Hajduk Split. The 32-year-old has since cemented his position as the undisputed first-choice for the French outfit with more than 200 appearances for the club in all competitions.

This season has seen AS Monaco lead Europe in terms of attacking statistics. But, the defence has also contributed a lot in the French side currently occupying the top spot in Ligue 1. And Subasic has been at the heart of such defensively solid displays, with a pair of safe hands to guard the goal.

In the league alone, the 32-year-old has played all but one game for AS Monaco, conceding just 25 goals with 13 shutouts to his name; averaging less than a goal per game.

The 32-year-old’s displays have brought forth interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. Gunners are in search of a quality goalkeeper to take over from Petr Cech after the veteran’s shoddy displays, especially with David Ospina likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have two good goalkeepers in Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. But, neither has been able to prove Klopp that a goalkeeper is not a necessary addition, with both of them taking turns to provide inconsistent performances between the posts.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked to Kasper Schmeichel recently. But, Subasic, whose Monaco contract expires in 2019, could be a relatively more achievable target. The 32-year-old could be tempted to hone his skills in the Premier League, which is touted to be the most competitive league right now.

AS Monaco, though, are unlikely to part with the player easily, especially with Subasic’s current stature of an undisputed starter. Subasic himself could choose the safe option of staying at a club where he is a key member of the squad than opt to move to an unexplored league.

Should Subasic however, show the faintest of interest in a move, Arsenal and Liverpool are likely to have a crack at it and attempt to test Monaco’s resolve.
