Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund sensation Ousmane Dembele, with Jurgen Klopp confident of landing the youngster.

Italian publication Calciomercato are reporting that Liverpool are the latest club to show interest in Borussia Dortmund sensation Ousmane Dembele. The player has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent times, but it looks like the Blaugrana will face opposition in the form of Liverpool.

And the opposition may hold the edge, with Jurgen Klopp having brilliant ties with Borussia Dortmund from his highly successful managerial tenure at Westfalenstadion. Liverpool are eyeing Ousmane Dembele after Klopp was left unsatisfied with a dearth of quality attacking options.

Also, Coutinho has been linked with a move away, which would further deteriorate the quality of Liverpool’s attack, something which Klopp is looking to avoid. The German is also hoping his connections at Borussia Dortmund can help him edge Barcelona in the race for Dembele.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are looking towards the future while procuring the best talents possible. But, of late, the Blaugrana have identified a profile of transfer targets which are capable of being the future of the club while also having the talent to impact in the present as well.

They were among the clubs in the running to sign Dembele and have now rekindled their interest in the Dortmund attacker. Dembele’s stock has shot through the roof after his move to Germany, where, in his debut season, he has recorded 6 goals and 10 assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances.

The player has a contract till 2021 with Dortmund but the interest around him suggests he could be on the move earlier than expected. Dortmund have seen most of their superstars move to different clubs and Dembele could follow suit.

At Barcelona, Dembele would get the opportunity to straight away fight for top honours, both domestically and continentally, something which may not be readily possible at Liverpool; which is seen more as a project as at the present moment.

However, at Liverpool, he is sure to be a guaranteed starter, something Barcelona are unlikely to be able to provide this summer. At Borussia, though, he is getting the best of both worlds, with his role as a starter intact while being able to compete in Europe’s elite competition.

Dembele is just 19. And at such a nascent age, one must first look towards developing their talent, which can only be possible by playing regularly at the highest stage of European football; which makes Dortmund the perfect club for him right now.

However, any suitor – Barcelona, Liverpool or a host of other clubs that are keeping a track of the talent – may come in with a large and perhaps, an offer too good to be turned down, which could get Dembele moving. Till then, though, the Frenchman looks set to light the Bundesliga ablaze with his talent.
