Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb are reportedly looking to sign Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic on loan.
According to Andy Warren of the Daily Mail, Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb are plotting a loan swoop for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic. The 20-year-old’s lack of appearances for the Reds has seen Zagreb show a keen interest in his services.
Grujic was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at Anfield since he took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers last season. There was plenty of hype surrounding the player who joined from Red Star Belgrade, but unfortunately he has failed to break into the first team as yet.
The main reason for his lack of appearances is that he’s had an injury-laden spell in England, and has managed to play in just five matches for the Merseyside club. The 20-year-old is also yet to make a Premier League start.
It seemed that he would break into the manager’s plans this time around as he showed signs of things to come with an exceptional pre-season display that saw him banging in goals left, right and centre.
But due to his susceptibility to injuries, Klopp has seldom selected the Serbian midfielder in his Premier League matchday squad. Grujic has made three appearances in the EFL Cup, and has not impressed the German to make him a part of the senior side.
The Serbian is understood to have recovered from a hamstring injury as he recently played 60 minutes for the Liverpool under-23s. Jurgen Klopp was understood to be in attendance, keeping an eye on the progress of the player since a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
A loan move to Zagreb may well what Grujic needs to bring his career back on the right part. Playing in the Croatian top flight will certainly be more beneficial than playing for the Liverpool reserves, and the 20-year-old is expected to accept an offer if it is to come his way.
There is definite interest from Zagreb as their adviser Zdravko Mamic has admitted to being interested in roping in the Liverpool midfielder. In an interview, Mamic said: “I wanted to bring Andrija Zivkovic in from Benfica for €5million, but I failed. Now I want to get Marko Grujic from Liverpool on loan.”
