Everton are reportedly scouring the possibility of a summer transfer to bring highly-rated Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Goodison Park.

Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Everton are interested in a Manchester United player. But, this time it’s not Wayne Rooney but highly-rated youngster Timothy Fosu Mensah. Ronald Koeman is scouring the possibility of the player being viable and available in the summer.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is one of the most highly-rated youngsters under contract at Old Trafford. The Dutchman is on the verge of making his senior international debut, having been already called up to the senior squad on quite a number of occasions.

The youngster broke through into the first-team under Louis Van Gaal, who deployed the player largely in the defence. As Jose Mourinho arrived, it was reported that the Portuguese had marked the player to develop himself as a right-back as he saw immense potential for him in that role.

But, the Timothy is equally adept at playing the role of a centre-half and a holding midfielder as well, with a number of fans and pundits speculating that the holding midfield position is in fact, where he is the most natural or feels the most comfortable.

Fosu-Mensah’s minutes this season has been restricted, largely due to the form of Antonio Valencia and Jose Mourinho’s knack of playing Ashley Young as a makeshift right-back. The Dutchman has featured in 7 games for Manchester United and has been solid whenever called upon.

Despite the lack of game time, Jose Mourinho has often spoken of Mensah’s talent and potential, which is likely to assure the 19-year-old that he is in the manager’s plans. Everton, though, are looking into the possibility of a potential summer transfer for the versatile youngster.

As per the report, Everton scouts have been monitoring Fosu-Mensah and the Toffees would hope the prospect of regular first-team football in the Premier League itself will be enterprising enough to convince the Dutchman.

Ronald Koeman is aiming to create a dynasty at Goodison Park with potential future superstars like Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman in the squad along with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, who has already grown a destructive striker and is ranked among the best in the Premier League at the present moment.

Manchester United have lost a number of talented youngsters in the recent years, since the post Sir Alex Ferguson era and would ideally like to keep a talent as highly-rated as Mensah’s at Old Trafford.

But, in case Timothy, whose contract runs till 2020 with a one-year extension option at the perusal of the club, does decide to look for newer pastures, Everton could be primed to jump in and snap the player up.
