Manchester United have reportedly signed Welsh wonderkid Levent Gundogan from Connah’s Quay Nomads after a six-week trial with the club.

Connah’s Quay Nomads have confirmed through their official academy website pitchero.com that their 14-year-old striker Levent Gundogan has signed for Manchester United. The player is very highly-rated and becomes the second academy member from Connah’s Quay Nomads in the recent times to sign for the Red Devils.

Levent Gundogan joined Connah’s Quay Nomads academy two years ago and has since been an ever-present name on the team sheets for the academy. The Welsh wonderkid was very highly rated within the system and it was his performance against Manchester United that caught the latter’s attention.

In a game between the North Wales squad and Manchester United that ended 4-4, Gundogan terrorised the Red Devils eleven as he scored all four goals for the former. The display earned him a six-week trial at Manchester United and it seems he has managed to impress the coaches enough to land a professional deal at the Premier League club.

As per the website,“ [Levent is] A very gifted player, who is comfortable up front or in attacking midfield. His attitude and commitment to training and the club have been first class and we wish him all the best during his time at Manchester United.”

“ Levent is a great example of the pathway for players within the FAW Academy system, and the opportunities that are available to move to a higher level.”

The website also reserved special mentions to coaches Iain Bennett and Anthony Weaver, who were instrumental in Levent’s progress, as they worked specifically with the 14-year-old in terms of his development.

The player has been prolific across all age levels and at the Under-14 level, he was immense for Connah’s Quay Nomads, with 9 goals and 2 assists in just 5 matches.

Manchester United have been undergoing a total overhaul of their academies after disappointing results and failure to produce potential first-teamers for the club itself. Nicky Butt has been charged with overseeing the overhaul, which seems to be coming along nicely.

The Red Devils have already grabbed the likes of Tahith Chong, Nishan Burkart and  Joshua Bohui, who were all courted heavily by other top clubs and are regarded as potential future superstars along with several youngsters like Angel Gomes, Indy Boonen and others who have come through the academy.

And Levent is set to be the next one to join the ranks. It will be interesting to see how the Welsh talent develops, especially because United have a profound history of talents coming through the academy and becoming a key player for the first-team, with the Welshman Ryan Giggs being one of the glittering examples of the system.
