Luke Shaw is reportedly considering his future at Old Trafford due to falling out favour with manager Jose Mourinho

According to a Squawka exclusive by Greg Stobart, Luke Shaw is looking to seek an exit route out of Manchester United in the summer, due to a reported falling out with manager Jose Mourinho.

The English left-back moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2014 for an initial fee of £27 million, which saw him become the then most expensive teenage in the world of football. A lot was riding on his shoulders as he was expected to serve as a replacement for the club’s long-serving left-back Patrice Evra.

While Shaw did manage to hit the ground running at his new club, a number of injuries have seen him spend an extended amount of time on the sidelines. The club has had to make do with the likes of Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young as makeshift options, but have still not signed an out-and-out defender in that position.

It was expected that Jose Mourinho would sign a left-back to challenge Luke Shaw for a starting role, but the former Chelsea boss opted against it, putting his complete faith in the Englishman.

However, he has felt let down by the response received from Shaw, who has had a torrid time this season. The reason for his performances are due to a career-threatening injury he succumbed to mid-way through last season, and he hasn’t fully recovered from it as yet.

Shaw was publicly criticised by Mourinho after United’s 3-1 defeat against Watford in September, and the defender has not done enough since then to regain the manager’s faith. He has made just one appearance since the start of December, and failed to make it into the 18-man squad that triumphed over his former employers Southampton in the EFL Cup final.

Mourinho recently ruled out selling the defender, but is not likely to stand in his way should he decide to part ways with the club. Shaw believes that the United boss has already made up his mind regarding his first-team involvement, and is of the opinion that a move away from Old Trafford would be the best step he could take at this point in time.
