Real Madrid have identified Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara as a potential summer target
According to Don Balon, Madrid have begun to look at their options in the transfer market should Isco decide to leave the club in the summer. Isco’s future is currently up in the air and the player himself recently confessed that he could choose to move on at the end of the season for the sake of his career.
The Spanish international has been unable to become a first team regular under manager Zinedine Zidane and has been linked with moves to a host of clubs, with Zidane himself admitting that he understood why Isco would want to leave at the end of the season.
Don Balon claim that Madrid have made it clear that they will “capitulate to the pressures of the player” according to Don Balon, and after Isco rejected a new contract they have already started lining up potential replacements for the diminutive midfielder.
To that end, Zinedine Zidane has already identified his replacement in Bayern Munich’s Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who has come close to joining Los Blancos on several occasions in the past.
Thiago signed for Bayern Munich back in 2013 for a fee of €25 million, but were also approached by Real Madrid at the time. It was the presence of then-manager Pep Guardiola that convinced Thiago to move to Germany, but admitted at the time that he could not close the door on a move to Real in the future.
It was not the first time Madrid tried to sign the talented midfielder. Back in 2011, Thaigo’s father admitted that he had been approached by Madrid’s general director at the time, Jorge Valdano, regarding a potential move for Thiago who they also attempted to sign when he was just 15 years old.
It comes as no surprise, then, that Madrid are weighing up an offer for him once again. The midfielder has grown in stature since he has moved to Bayern and has been in fine form for them once again this season.
He has picked up 5 goals and 6 assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for the German side, and is registering an impressive average of 1.48 key passes, 1.66 chances created, 2.03 successful take-ons and a pass completion rate of 90% per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga, according to Squawka.
Don Balon claim that Thiago is unsettled at Munich after the departure of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, and that the Spaniard would be open to a move back to the La Liga as he prefers it to the Bundesliga.
Should Isco leave, it is very possible that Madrid will test the waters with a bid for Thiago. The fact that he will only have 2 years left on his contract come the end of the season should also give them some hope.
