Liverpool are reportedly tracking West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang as Jurgen Klopp eyes midfield additions to the Anfield in the summer.

The Sun are reporting that Liverpool are showing interest in West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang. The deep-lying playmaker has been impressive in an otherwise dull campaign for the Hammers. And his performances seem to have caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp, with reports that the Reds are monitoring the player.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to recruit a player in the summer, one that is adept at playing the deep-lying playmaker role, with just Jordan Henderson among the options available in the squad that can don the role with much aplomb. Obiang has reveled in the aforementioned role for West Ham United under Slaven Bilic.

And this season, where the Hammers have struggled to recapture their last-season form, Obiang has been one of the rare sparks on the pitch. The 24-year-old has appeared in 18 of 25 matches for the Hammers and his presence has been telling, with Slaven Bilic’s side winning just 1 of the 7 matches that Obiang has not featured in.

And his performances have caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp, who is keen to add the Spaniard to his ranks at Anfield in the summer. Liverpool failed miserably in the quest to add depth in January and the club officials, including Klopp, are intent on ensuring the same isn’t the case in the summer.

As per the report, Liverpool are set to keep tabs on the player’s displays throughout the season and would take a decision in the pursuit of the 24-year-old in the summer. Obiang’s current West Ham deal runs till the summer of 2019, which still has more than two years left on it.

Obiang’s influence on West Ham United’s performances and their results has surely been identified by the Hammers hierarchy and Slaven Bilic, who are unlikely to let the player leave for cheap, if at all, as evidenced in the Dmitri Payet saga.

The report entails that a bid around the £18 million mark may be enough to get a deal done, but it may rise depending on how the rest of the season pans out. If the player continues his rich vein of form, we might just be seeing Obiang don the Red jersey in the next Premier League campaign.
