Ex-Manchester United defender Wes Brown has asked Marcus Rashford to be patient and impress with the opportunities he gets at the club.

In an interview with Rob Dawson of Manchester Evening News, Wes Brown has told Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford to make the most of his opportunity, should he be given the nod against Blackburn Rovers in the 5th Round of the FA Cup. He stated:

“It’s hard. I remember when I got through, it’s not as bad as this, but you know you have got a couple of games to show what you can do otherwise you get dropped back again.

“It’s not the end and he has obviously done fantastic. At the moment he has not played that much, he has come on as a sub.

“He is young and I am sure Mourinho has got him in his plans for the future.”

The English defender left Old Trafford for Sunderland in 2011 where he went on to initially become a regular for the Black Cats. He won two Champions League and five Premier League titles during his stay at the Manchester club.

Marcus Rashford is likely to get his first start in three games as the Red Devils take on Blackburn on Sunday. Brown will be in the opposite dugout, and could be on the bench for the Championship side.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved to Old Trafford in the summer and has hit the ground running at his new club. He has already bagged 23 goals in all competitions this term, and has become the club’s undisputed first-choice option in the final third.

This has eventually led to Rashford’s diminishing minutes on the field and has also seen competition for a spot on the flanks increase as club captain Wayne Rooney has often played out wide, while new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has almost permanently jotted down his name in the playing eleven, either on the wings, or through the middle.

Still only 19 years old, Rashford has the world at his feat and could be seen as the next in line once Ibrahimovic bids adieu to the game. Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann has been strongly linked with a move to United in the summer, and his arrival could further affect Rashford’s chances of regular football.
