Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with Palmeiras as regards Yerry Mina, with the player set to move to the club after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Spanish publication Sport have reported that Barcelona have reached a pre-agreement with Palmeiras over the transfer of Yerry Mina. The talented Colombian is set to stay with Palmeiras, however, for now and will move to Nou Camp only after the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is to be held in Russia.

Sport had earlier given an exclusive report of a meeting being held in Barcelona between the club officials. Palmeiras president Mauricio Gailotte and Sporting Director Alexandre Matto had traveled to Nou Camp to discuss the future of Yerry Mina.

The officials were worried that Barcelona would try to push through a deal in the summer of 2017 for Yerry Mina, which could result in the Colombian international exiting Palmeiras midway through the regular season in Brazil.

The Brazilian club wanted Yerry Mina to stay with the club till the end of 2017, with the Brazilian league ending in December. But, as subsequently reported by Sport, it seems Barcelona are prepared to wait until the summer of 2018 to get their hands on the Colombian defender.

There was a report of Barcelona securing an option to sign Yerry Mina until the summer of 2017 and as per the report, that has been extended beyond its original time. The report adds that a January transfer in 2018 looks as unlikely as a move in the summer of 2017, mainly because of Barcelona’s packed fixture schedule during the period.

But, Palmeiras are not totally protected against Yerry Mina, with the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich also eyeing a deal for the Colombian. Either or both of the aforementioned clubs might try to persuade the defender to move in summer itself.

And with Barcelona having an option to trigger the purchase of Mina, it could bring the player over to Nou Camp earlier, depending on whether City or Bayern do go in for the 22-year-old. But, in case they do not table a real offer to Palmeiras, Yerry Mina looks set to stay with the Brazilian club for at least the season.

As far as Barcelona goes, Yerry Mina looks all set to become a Blaugrana in the summer of 2018, after the end of the FIFA World Cup in Russia. Regardless of the date, Yerry Mina seems destined to don the iconic Blaugrana jersey soon.
