Manchester United are reportedly set to rival Real Madrid and other top Premier League clubs in the pursuit of Torino superstar Andrea Belotti.
As per a TuttoMercatoWeb exclusive, Manchester United have entered the race for Torino superstar Andrea Belotti. The Italian has been linked to top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid being the latest one. But, it seems the Red Devils are set to rival these clubs.
The 23-year-old has been literally on fire this season for Torino, with 17 goals and 4 assists in 21 Serie A games for his side, averaging a contribution of 1 goal every game, directly or otherwise. His form has propelled Torino the top half of the Serie A table.
And his performances have not gone unnoticed; far from it. There has been widespread interest in Belotti, with top Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all reported as suitors for the Italian international.
The trio have been having their own problems with their attacking options and were keen to add a striker of Belotti’s talents to their squad. In fact, as deadline day of the January transfer window neared, Chelsea director Micheal Emenalo was rumoured to be in talks to seal a deal for Belotti, but it failed to transpire.
Real Madrid were the latest club to be linked with Andrea Belotti, with doubts over Karim Benzema’s future at Santiago Bernabeu. With so many high-profile clubs tailing Belotti, combined with Real Madrid having no Italian in the ranks right now, the move would make sense for Florentino Perez, both economically and footballing-wise.
But now, Manchester United seemed to have joined the queue. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a great but ageing presence upfront and while Mourinho has Marcus Rashford at his disposal, the prodigy has been used more as an impact player as of now.
Belotti presents a player who can don the Red jersey for years to come, if United does end up beating other suitors to the Italian international. The report iterates that there has been no contact established between the two clubs over a transfer but that Torino are aware of Mourinho’s interest in the player.
The player has a reported release clause of €100 million, a humongous fee but one which none of the interested parties would really have a problem in shelving out, if it brings Belotti to their respective club.
Belotti’s future destination is still unknown but it is becoming increasingly certain that the 23-year-old might be plying his trade away from Torino in the 2017-18 campaign.
