Manchester United are set to offer former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho an extension on his current deal at the end of the season.
The Sun are claiming that Jose Mourinho could be set for a second deal at Old Trafford months into his managerial career with Manchester United. The report iterates that the Red Devils hierarchy is convinced by Mourinho’s quality and want to hand him an extension on his current deal by the end of the season.
There is no doubt that Jose Mourinho has captured the imagination of the United fans, legends and chiefs all at once. The football seems to be returning to the level it was under Sir Alex Ferguson and the results are starting to come as well.
Mourinho has two-and-half years left on his Manchester United deal, one which sees him pocket £12 million per year. And as per the report, the Portuguese is set to sit down with the hierarchy, who are looking to extend his deal to another year at the end of the season.
Along with the renewal of the deal to extend it to reinstate the term back to three years, the club will insert a one-year extension option at their perusal. The report quotes a source close to United in relation to the speculation.
“The club want to discuss extending Jose’s contract when the season ends. There’s an option for another 12-months should the guys upstairs want it, depending on trophies and the such. He is loved here already, and has the fans on his side.”
“It has a feeling of something special starting. The owners are on board for the additional year. They love having him here at the moment.”
Well, if you ask United fans, it does have a feeling of something special. The home aura is starting to come back, with United losing just 1 home game out of 12 under the Portuguese.
The report does also state that Mourinho is not set for a bump in pay along with the extension. However, the new deal will see more rewards based on success on the football pitch.
The extension will be greeted with much enthusiasm by the United fans and come the end of the season, if United do manage to win a trophy or two along with Champions League qualification, the deal would look much sweeter. Much sweeter indeed.
