Rafa Benitez is looking to secure a loan move for Sheyi Ojo to bring the player from his former club Liverpool to Newcastle.

The Northern Echo have claimed that Newcastle are interested in Liverpool teenager Sheyi Ojo. The winger has been terrific in his outings for Liverpool and it seems to have brought forth interest from former boss Rafa Benitez, especially with Newcastle reeling with injury issues.

Sheyi Ojo is another one of the academy graduates from the ever-prominent MK Dons setup. The player’s services were secured by Liverpool in 2011 for a meagre €2.5 million and the 19-year-old has since risen through the ranks at Melwood, managing to break through into the first-team at Anfield.

The 2015-16 campaign was a highly prolific one for Ojo, as he spent one half of the season out on loan to Wolves in the Championship while representing Liverpool in the other half. And he managed a great return of 9 goals and 9 assists across all competitions, numbers which make for good reading.

This season, though, the player has been restricted to just 1 FA Cup appearance for the Reds’ senior squad, largely due to a back problem but is now expected to be in the matchday squads again, with the 19-year-old regaining fitness.

Ojo can be deployed on either wing, but the left-footed teen seems to prefer the left side more. He has 14 appearances for the Under 19 team for the Three Lions, with 1 goal and 2 assists to show for his efforts.

The weekend added three more players to a long list of Newcastle players reeling with injury issues, with Vurnon Anita, Dwight Gayle and Isaac Hayden all receiving knocks over the weekend. This might compel Benitez to secure some incomings, short or otherwise.

And the Spaniard is looking towards his former club Liverpool, a club he served for a long time and a place where he is held in high regard, with a loan move lined up for Sheyi Ojo. The report, however, states that Klopp is unlikely to want to part with the 19-year-old, with the Reds competing on three fronts.

Newcastle are also reportedly eyeing deals for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph and Everton’s James McCarthy but are likely to be rebuffed in their respective approaches.

Ojo has not featured prominently and if Liverpool were to secure some additions to the current roster, Klopp could allow the winger to leave for Newcastle in order to gain some regular first-team action under his belt, which will benefit the player in the long run.
