Arsenal have reportedly joined other high-profile English clubs in the pursuit of former Manchester United trialist Idris Kanu.

Get Hampshire have claimed that Arsenal have entered the race for former Manchester United trialist Idris Kanu. The 17-year-old is now strutting his stuff at Aldershot Town and his impressive displays have attracted the attention of top English clubs, a list which is now joined by the Gunners.

Idris Kanu joined West Ham academy at the age of 11 and went through his early paces with the Hammers. The Englishman showed great promise in the academy setup, featuring for the Under 21 side at the nascent age of 15.

The player has since made the move over to Aldershot Town and created history in the process. The 17-year-old became the youngest player to play for Aldershot Town at the age of 16 years and 308 days and subsequently also became the club’s youngest goalscorer at the age of 16 years and 343 days.

Kanu has since notched up 2 goals in 12 outings in the National League for Aldershot Town. But, numbers aside, it is his overall play that has impressed everyone in the nation. His form has brought forth the attention of top English clubs.

Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Leicester City and Crystal Palace have been credited with interest in the 17-year-old while Championship outfit Reading is also rumoured to be in the race.

Manchester United, on the other hand, were very close to sealing a permanent deal with Idris Kanu with the 17-year-old undergoing a trials with the Red Devils and even putting forward an impressive account for himself during the trial period.

The Red Devils might just decide to go back in for Idris Kanu. But now they face a lot of competition for the natural striker. And, Arsenal have joined the long list of admirers.

The report reveals that representatives from Arsenal were present during Aldershot Town’s 2-1 win over Southport to monitor the player’s progress and have been, in general, tracking Kanu’s performances in recent times.

With so many clubs circling round Kanu, it seems like only a matter of time before he makes a move towards the upper echelons of English football.

Manchester United would be disappointed at letting such a prospect leave from their grasp, especially after they had him on their books and were close to securing the player on permanent basis. And judging by interest in Kanu, the early signs signify that the Red Devils might regret their decision.
