Manchester United star Anthony Martial, who is on the radar of Barcelona and Real Madrid, is reportedly a loan target for La Liga outfit Sevilla.
French publication RMC Sport have claimed that Sevilla have joined fellow La Liga outfits Barcelona and Real Madrid in the pursuit of Manchester United star Anthony Martial. The report iterates that Sevilla’s technical director Monchi has contacted Martial’s agent over the possibility of a move.
The Frenchman arrived at Old Trafford in a big-money transfer from AS Monaco in 2015. He was an instant hit and finished his debut season as the club’s top scorer in all competitions.
However, the Frenchman has failed to capture the imagination in a similar manner this season. Martial has received his fair share of chances under new manager Jose Mourinho, with 11 appearances in the Premier League, but has failed to capitalize on them.
Despite his mediocre displays, he has received the backing of Mourinho, who has publicly iterated that the player is young and needs time to adapt to his tactics.
The 21-year-old has admitted to feeling a bit frustrated at the lack of chances and has been linked with a move away. There were even reports of Real Madrid and Manchester United considering a James Rodriguez-Anthony Martial swap.
With his pace, dribbling and directness, many see the Frenchman as a perfect player for Spanish football. Manchester United are unlikely to want to part with the player though, with Jose Mourinho slowly integrating him back into the starting lineup.
The Red Devils have been on the rise in recent weeks, with four Premier League wins on the trot. Martial’s form too seems to be on the up and up, with the Frenchman playing a more integral role in recent times. The club are still competing in four competitions and Mourinho is unlikely to let Martial leave on loan, let alone on a permanent transfer.
The links may just be based on Martial’s comments and Sevilla’s need for reinforcements. As far as Barcelona and Real Madrid are concerned, the duo were reported to be interested in Martial before he earned a move to Old Trafford, and the speculation linking the 21-year-old to the duo might just be a result of the previous reported interest.
But if the Red Devils do decide to let Martial go, they are more likely to allow him to leave on loan than a permanent transfer, which would give Sevilla the upper hand over Barcelona and Real Madrid.
