Liverpool’s Brazilian sensation Roberto Firmino has been christened ‘Bobby’ by the Anfield faithful and he is absolutely loving the new nickname.
The Kop have made Firmino one of their own by giving him the English nickname Bobby. The chants have become a regular occurrence during Liverpool games, as the Brazilian continues his scintillating form for the Reds.
Firmino recently admitted that he loved the new name.
“I love hearing the fans calling my name and at the moment they are calling me Bobby Firmino!” he told the latest edition of the official Liverpool magazine.
“It is exciting when they are shouting your name and singing for you.”
The Reds no. 11 also spoke about his disappointment at not winning any titles so far in his Liverpool career. He states that Liverpool are playing well this season, and the ultimate aim of the new year of 2017 is to win titles and trophies.
“Unfortunately, we lost two finals last season and that has still left me without a trophy or medals,” he said.
“We are playing to win titles in 2017 and we are doing our best to achieve that because that will make us excel in our careers as professional footballers. That is what we all want for each other, for the fans and for the club.”
Firmino has become indispensable for Liverpool in his ‘False 9’ role. The former Hoffenheim midfielder has notched up five goals and three assists so far this season, and is a key figure in almost all of the club’s attacking movements.
The £29 million transfer fee the Reds paid Bundesliga club Hoffenheim for the 25-year-old seems like a bargain in hindsight. Even manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he was shocked when he heard that Liverpool, then under Brendan Rodgers, had snapped up Firmino.
The Brazilian now seems to have made Merseyside his own, as he is at the forefront of the most promising Liverpool season in a very long time. Firmino is happy at the club, but sad at the lack of silverware, and this is a situation he will be hoping to resolve very soon.
