Real Madrid may be resigned to lose Gareth Bale for at least two months after the Welsh superstar suffered a nasty injury in the 2-1 win over Sporting CP
Real Madrid secured qualification into the next stage of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a narrow 2-1 away win over Sporting CP. But perhaps, the overall effect of the match may well turn out to be negative. Gareth Bale was subbed off in the 58th minute after he suffered an injury.
Tests thereafter have shown that the Welsh superstar has suffered a tendon injury in his right ankle. The club officials said the player’s recovery will ‘continue to be assessed’ with no given time frame for the player’s return. And now, former Real Madrid chief doctor Alfonso Del Corral has recommended that the player undergo surgery on the right ankle instead of opting for a conservative treatment.
De Corral, who was the chief doctor at Los Blancos from 1994 to 2007, told Cadena Ser radio,“ There are two possible treatment options, conservative and surgical. It’s not certain that a conservative treatment will be good in this case because if it didn’t work, you would then have to opt for surgery. Three out of four doctors would recommend him undergoing surgery.”
If Gareth Bale does go under the knife, something which he is hoping to avoid, he is likely to out for at least 2 months, while he is already resigned to miss the El Classico.
Although Bale is hoping to avoid an operation on his right ankle, Spanish publication Marca have claimed that the player will consult with renowned orthopaedic surgeon duo Mariano De Prado and Niek Van Dijk on Thursday to get a clear view at the nature of treatment required.
Gareth Bale has been immense for Real Madrid in the current campaign thus far, with a return of 7 goals and 4 assists in 16 appearances, combining the stats from La Liga and Champions League. His absence is likely to affect Real’s current form, with the Los Blancos currently on a 30-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
Bale’s absence will put more pressure on Cristiano Ronaldo to provide the ammunition in attack. Ronaldo, being the kind of guy who thrives on pressure, may relish the chance to be the lone focal point of the attack once again, albeit for a short period of time.
