Porto’s Mexican midfielder, Hector Herrera continues to be on the radar of Liverpool, reveals Portuguese newspaper A Bola (h/t Goal). The Merseyside club had an agreement with the player in the summer but couldn’t agree to a fee with Porto, with the Portuguese club not willing to budge on Herrera’s valuation of £35 million, which is his release clause.
The non-agreement meant Liverpool moved on to sign their other midfield targets, but A Bola claim manager Jurgen Klopp still remains keen for the player.
However, if Liverpool were to sign Hector Herrera, they would now have to fight off competition from Napoli. Goal claims even the Italian club had agreed personal terms with the midfielder at one stage in the summer, but his £35 million release-clause was again the bone of contention. Like Liverpool, Napoli remain interested in the player should there be any change in the situation.
Italian outlet, TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Bleacher Report) also reported last month that Manchester United are among the clubs who have been monitoring Hector Herrera for a while, with Jose Mourinho said to be an admirer of the player, as he plots to reinforce his midfield with the aging Michael Carrick close to exiting the door.
Herrera’s combative, all-action playing style makes him a perfect fit for the Premier League, where the intensity of every game is very high. His ability as a box-to-box to midfielder as well as his all-round profile are sure attract a lot of European elites in the upcoming transfer windows.
The midfielder has suffered a slump in form this season but his talents remain undoubted, evident by the fact that two of football’s very best managers – Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho – are keen to have their hands on the player.
