A host of Premier League clubs are said to be interested in the 25-year-old forward’s signature
Malian forward Moussa Marega’s performances for Vitoria Guimaraes aren’t going unnoticed after the hit-man emerged as one of the most lethal players in the Primeira Liga, Portugal’s top-flight league.
The forward, who is on loan from Porto, has been attracting the attentions of various top Premier League clubs because of his recent goal-scoring exploits.
The 25-year-old is currently the top scorer in this season’s Primeira Liga, with 10 goals in 8 matches and is one of the key reasons why Vitoria Guimaraes are pushing for an European spot, with only two points behind Portuguese giants, Porto who are placed second.
French outlet, Foot Mercato (h/t HITC) have claimed the forward is being closely monitored by host of Premier League and European clubs. Of the English clubs, Marega has been scouted extensively by Liverpool, Tottenham, Crystal Palace Watford and Sunderland.
The story is supported by English newspaper, The Sun, who report in similar vein, suggesting Liverpool and Spurs are engaged in a transfer battle for the player with Crystal Palace and Watford joining the fray.
Moussa Marega was on the verge of joining Porto’s rival Sporting before the deal was hijacked by Porto in the 2016 January transfer window. The player joined Porto from C.S. Marítimo for a transfer fee worth €1.1 million on a 4-year contract.
Porto, knowing the high potential of Marega, inserted a buy-out clause worth €40 million in his contract during the transfer.
Apart from Marega’s goal-scoring threat, the player has also impressed with his versatility, being equally adept at playing wide, leading the line or as a secondary striker.
The interest from the Premier League clubs for the player comes as no surprise, considering Spurs (scored only 14 league goals in 10 matches) and Sunderland (bottom of the table) have been misfiring all season and are in desperate search for goals, while his versatility might turn out to be of great value for Jurgen Klopp.
