Gary Neville has spoken about why he thinks Jose Mourinho is currently struggling at Manchester United

Mourinho spent heavily in the summer, and seemed publicly happily with his business having signed the “four specialists” that he wanted, but has had a very unimpressive start to the season.

United are currently worse off at this stage than they were at the same stage last season, and Mourinho has collected less points than both sacked managers Louis van Gaal and David Moyes did in their first seasons at the club.

Neville, who had great success with United himself as a right-back along with brother Phil Neville, had this to say about why he thinks Mourinho has issues at the club :

“At the moment you’re not quite sure that Jose Mourinho knows his best team and that he trusts his players fully yet,” the former United captain said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“I think when he was at Chelsea there’s all that talk he’d lost the dressing room. There’s nothing like that happening at Manchester United.”

“The players gave their all and deserved to win, but Burnley were resolute, resilient, blocked everything and they missed quite a few chances.”

Mourinho’s side had 37 attempts on Saturday, but the 0-0 result marked the third successive league fixture United have failed to score, confirming Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s worst goal drought in 10 years.

Mourinho is already under pressure at United, with various figures in the sport publicly questioning why he refuses to play one of those 4 specialists he signed – Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

He has also come under fire for his treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger, with several of the former German international’s ex-teammates publicly bashing Mourinho.

To add to all that, the Manchester United manager has also been reprimanded for his conduct during games, with upcoming hearings with the FA following his sending off at Burnley. It has been reported that depending on the outcome of these hearings, Mourinho could face a 2 match touchline ban.
