Liverpool look set to offer Philippe Coutinho a new contract amidst interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid over the last few weeks. The Brazilian has been one of the best players this season and the Reds can ill-afford to lose him at this stage

There has been strong interest towards Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho in recent years and with sparkling performances underlining his growth under Jurgen Klopp, the likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG are all looking to acquire the Brazilian.

However, with Klopp’s Anfield project in full swing, the Reds can ill-afford to lose a player of his quality if they are to harbour ambitions of silverware in the long term.

With that in mind, it appears Liverpool are preparing a new bumper contract for Coutinho in order to ward off interest from elsewhere. The Brazilian is theoretically slated to stay at Anfield up until 2020 as stipulated by the contract he signed in February 2015. The ‘little magician’ has been in brilliant form for the Reds this season scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in all competitions for the Reds.

According to Sports’ Luis Miguelsanz, Coutinho has had his sights set on a potential future at the Camp Nou and his agents Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci are also keen on conjuring up a big money move for their client.

The midfielder who was an £8.5 million acquisition from Inter Milan in 2013 has seen his stocks rising ever since his Anfield switch and was rated as highly as £50 million by Liverpool in their bid to detract potential suitors for their priced asset.

Does it make sense for Coutinho to stay at Liverpool?

Over the summer,  Coutinho shared his disappointment regarding the absence of silverware during his time at Liverpool and hinted that he could be headed elsewhere if he wasn’t guaranteed a shot at glory with the Merseysiders. Those comments sparked a torrent of interest from big clubs, all with a rich pedigree for winning trophies, that could easily entice the Brazilian into leaving Anfield.

Fast-forward five months and we have a Liverpool side, who are joint top of the league and in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup, determined to rub the dust off their trophy cabinet and return to the glory days.

And at the epicentre of it all has been Coutinho, the creative brain behind the Reds’ high-speed football putting up some brilliant performances while also establishing a telepathic partnership with fellow countryman Roberto Firmino.

Evidenced by what we have observed over the last few months at the club, it’s absolutely certain the Brazilian’s future is safe and bright at Liverpool. There is no necessity for him to move elsewhere in pursuit of silverware at a club where he isn’t even guaranteed first-team football.
