After being treated as an outcast at Manchester United, Armenian attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be offloaded in the January transfer window.
According to the Sun, Armenian attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is prepared to face the axe at Manchester United in January. The 27-year-old has made just one start for the Red Devils this term and could be looking for an exit in the coming transfer window.
Mkhitaryan moved to Old Trafford for a relative bargain value of £26 million. After having a pheonomenal 2015/16 campaign with Borussia Dortmund, the Armenian was voted as the Bundesliga player of the year. With 11 goals and 15 assists in the league last season, he was expected to be slotted straight into the Manchester United playing eleven.
However, the Armenian has made just one start for Mourinho’s side this season, and reports of a possible rift with the manager have begun to emerge. The 27-year-old was named as a surprise starter in the derby against Manchester City, but was withdrawn at half-time due to a lacklustre performance.
Despite performing well in training, the 27-year-old midfielder has failed to convince Jose Mourinho. He picked up a thigh injury on international duty last month and has not made the matchday squad since even though he was announced fit by the manager.
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has also urged Mourinho to make use of his £26.3 million summer signing.
“I can’t believe he’s not getting a look-in. He’d be a banker in my starting XI. He had a slow start at Dortmund too and was the players’ player of the year last season. He scored 23 goals and had 32 assists, which are staggering numbers”, said Hargreaves.
Mark Odgen of the Independent has stated that there were doubts over the Armenian’s adaptability in the Premier League ever since Louis van Gaal was at the helm at Old Trafford.
The report states that Mkhitaryan’s signing could have been agreed before Mourinho was announced as the United manager, and that he believes that the former Dortmund attacker is not quite ready for Premier League football as yet.
