Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp compares Manchester United to West Brom

Klopp believes that the Manchester United game provided some important lessons on how the Reds can tackle West Bromwich Albion on Saturday

The German manager stated that the tactics employed by Mourinho was useful practice for the game against a Tony Pulis led West Brom.

Pulis’ sides are well known for parking the bus and playing the long balls, a style in which Klopp believes Manchester United played in their goalless draw at Anfield.

“We are a football-playing side and Manchester United were more physical and stronger than we were with a lot of tall players,” Klopp told reporters ahead of the game, according to the Guardian.

“We did it well and I cannot remember there was a big advantage in this game out of these situations.

“We need to be ready again for situations like this [on Saturday]. You can always use a few things from the last game but on the other hand it will be different again. Defending these balls was important, very important in the United game and will be important in the next game.”

Interestingly, Jose Mourinho had earlier accused Liverpool of playing defensively by setting up two holding midfielders in Emre Can and Jordan Henderson. Klopp refused to be drawn into comments on this though, saying that he didn’t care about what anyone says after a match.

The match between Liverpool and Manchester United had been dubbed ‘Red Monday’, but it wasn’t exactly a high octane encounter. The Reds nearly snatched a victory, only for Philippe Coutinho to be thwarted by the flying Spaniard David de Gea.

Apart from that the game was quite drab, as Liverpool couldn’t breach the Manchester United defence despite having the majority of the possession. The Reds remain in fourth place after gaining a point at Anfield, while United dropped down to seventh as Chelsea leapfrogged them into fifth place.

The Red Devils now come up against the Blues on Sunday, while Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways against the Baggies on Saturday.
