Barcelona are reportedly showing interest in highly rated Manchester United wonder boy and England U-17 captain Angel Gomes.
Daily Mail have broken the story that Barcelona are monitoring the progress of highly-rated Manchester United youth prospect Angel Gomes. The Catalan outfit have taken notice of the player’s amazing talent and recent incredulous form.
Angel Gomes is a 16-year-old attacker, who is a first-year scholar at United and is currently a part of Red Devils’ U-18 side playing under the tutelage of new youth manager Kieran McKenna. Angel joined the United side at the age of 13 and the fact that the teenager made his U-18s debut at the mere age of 14 only goes to add further credibility to his talent.
The player may be short in stature but is reportedly huge on potential and talent with Angel regarded as one of the brightest players to play for United’s academy squad. Nicky Butt, who is in-charge of the academy, has high hopes for the 16-year-old with the aim of developing the player for the first-team.
Angel Gomes’s father, Gil, represented the Portuguese at the U-21 level playing alongside the likes of Luis Figo, which made the youngster eligible for both England and Portugal. The player, though, seems to have chosen the former having represented them at various age levels and even captaining the nation’s U-17 side.
The hierarchy at Barcelona has been alerted by the attacker’s tremendous form which saw the player come off the bench against Everton for the U-18s and score a hat-trick in the process.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are unlikely to entertain the possibility of letting go of the player with the teenager being primed as a future first-team star.
Angel Almeida Gomes is yet to agree a professional deal to extend his stay at the club but Barcelona’s interest in the player is likely to force the Manchester United hierarchy into speeding up the process to fend off interest from the Catalan giants.
