Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski has tipped Liverpool to mount a serious title challenge this season under former mentor Jurgen Klopp.

Robert Lewandowski was a relatively unknown quantity when he arrived at Borussia Dortmund for a fee under €5m. The striker was eased into the team setup as he made most of his appearances in his debut season from the bench and managed to score 8 league goals.

The striker evolved under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp and recorded three successive seasons with more than 20 Bundesliga goals for Dortmund as they took the league by storm and emerged as a serious threat to Bayern Munich’s supremacy.

Lewandowski has since made the switch to Bayern Munich and has gone on to become one of the most lethal strikers in the world, something which could be chalked down partly to his progress during his time under Jurgen Klopp. The German manager is currently at Liverpool and the Reds seems to responding well to his tactics.

The 28-year-old striker spoke exclusively to Goal about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and tipped the historic Premier League outfit to mount a serious title challenge under the mercurial manager.

“Under Klopp I think they will be fighting for the title this season,” Lewandwoski said. “Pep and Manchester City will not make it easy for anybody to win the title, but Liverpool have a real chance.

“Without European football it can really help them with being fresh for games and with injuries and, even though Klopp is always smiling, he is ruthless enough to take advantage of that.”

Lewandowski also added that the Reds seem to be enjoying playing football under Jurgen Klopp, a manager who he referred to as a father figure and a personality whom the players can trust. This in turn benefits the whole squad in the long-term, something which is evident from Liverpool’s start this season.

Liverpool have started the Premier League in dominant fashion with wins over defending champions Leicester City and Chelsea and currently lie just two points adrift of table-toppers Manchester City. While it may be too soon for people to announce Liverpool as one of the favourites to challenge for the title, there are signs that the Reds could once again return to the top of English football under Klopp.
