Robert Lewandowski seems to have snubbed Real Madrid as he is reportedly set to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Bayern Munich.

German publication Bild have claimed that Bayern Munich are close to agreeing a contract extension for their star striker Robert Lewandowski. The new deal is expected to extend his current contract that is due to expire in 2019 to 2021 and will also include a hefty pay rise for the Polish international.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid throughout the summer and was thought to be considering a move to Los Blancos. But, according to the latest developments, the striker is happy to keep playing at the Allianz Area and is keen to extend his current deal with Bayern Munich.

As per the intricacies of the new contract, Lewandowski is poised to earn a massive £13m in terms of annual wages, which is justified looking at the 28-year-old’s form. The Polish striker has been sublime for the Bavarians with 30 goals in the Bundesliga alone last season.

Lewandowski has started the current season with the same impetus and desire as the last term. He has already scored 5 goals in the league in just 4 matches, taking his rightful place at the top of the goalscoring charts for the season.

The news would come as a setback to Real Madrid’s hopes of securing the services of Lewandowski. Los Blancos were at one point reported to be close to a breakthrough as they were in talks with the player’s agent over the possibility of a move earlier in the summer.

Although Zinedine Zidane has Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata in his squad to fill the role of a number 9, the hierarchy at Real Madrid, especially club president Florentino Perez who has a knack to go after big names in the transfer market regardless of the need of the setup at Santiago Bernabeu wanted to bring in the Polish forward.

Carlo Ancelotti and Bayern Munich fans, though, would be ecstatic at the news of the Polish international being close to a contract extension with the club as Lewandowski seems set to dazzle the Allianz Arena and Bundesliga for many more years to come.
