Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing Paris St. Germain attacker Lucas Moura, claims the Brazilian’s agent
According to Anthony Chapman of the Sun, Jose Mourinho is keen on signing highly-rated Paris St. Germain winger Lucas Moura. The report states that the player’s agent has confirmed interest from the Manchester United manager.
Moura’s agent Wagner Ribeiro said: “It was Mourinho who called Lucas Moura (at Real Madrid). He wanted Lucas Moura, it wasn’t Florentino (Perez).
“Mourinho was, is, passionate for Lucas Moura. So much so that now at Manchester he wants Lucas as well.”
Mourinho is known to be a long-term fan of the Brazilian superstar. In the summer of 2012, when a host of clubs from all over Europe were vying for his signature, the Portuguese was then at the helm at Real Madrid, but failed in his efforts to lure the then Santos wonderkid to the Santiago Bernabeu.
At the time, Manchester United too were heavily linked with the player. Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the Red Devils, and was also an admirer of Moura. But the Scottish manager failed to complete a deal for the Brazilian as he was offered a more lucrative deal at PSG.
The former United boss was reportedly unwilling to match PSG’s £38 million valuation for the Santos starlet. Ferguson referred to it as a ‘mad’ bit of business by the French for shelling out such a staggering amount for an unproven 19-year-old.
However, four years on, Moura has done a fairly decent job in the Ligue 1 scoring 22 goals in 114 appearances for Les Parisiens. He is also one of the fastest players in France and could be a key addition to Mourinho’s setup.
The Portuguese has used Juan Mata on the right flank, but due to his lack of pace, he is struggling to impact proceedings. New signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also not enjoyed to best of starts to life in England and Moura could prove to be a better alternative compared to the United duo.
