Liverpool FC target Christian Pulisic reveals he is a Manchester United and Wayne Rooney fan

The Dortmund teenager, who was the subject of a late bid from Liverpool during the summer transfer window, has revealed that he is a fan of Manchester United and Red Devils skipper Wayne Rooney.

The 17-year-old USA international is one of the most highly rated young talents in the Bundesliga. Liverpool had reportedly launched a €12 million bid for the American in the last few days of the transfer window, only to have the offer rejected by Dortmund.

Pulisic has recently revealed that he was a Manchester United fan when he was young — news that won’t sit well with Liverpool supporters.

“I was a big Manchester United fan when I was younger, so I loved to watch Wayne Rooney,” he said in an interview with ESPN. “I wouldn’t say I’m a similar player, though. I think his passion for the game is something you don’t see much in players. That’s what I loved about him.”

The young Dortmund star also spoke out about the transfer speculation surrounding him when Liverpool were believed to be interested, stating that he leaves such matters to his representatives.

“I hear about it. I have social media,” said the youngster.  “Obviously I’m not completely closed to the world. But I don’t let it affect me or how I’m playing at the time. The whole time throughout, I was just focused on training every day.”

Christian Pulisic is a prodigious young talent and is breaking records already. The attacking midfielder became the youngest foreign goalscorer in the Bundesliga after opening the scoring for Der Borussen in their Bundesliga game against Hamburger on April 17th, 2016.

The 17-year-old then took to the international stage with aplomb, becoming the youngest goal scorer for the United States in May after finding the back of the net against Bolivia. Most recently, he became the youngest player to start for USA in their World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago earlier this week. It was a debut to remember for the teenager as he registered two assists in a thumping 4-0 win.

However, the youngster is still not a guaranteed starter for Dortmund. Pulisic is part of a trio of prodigious attacking talent also including two other teenagers: Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and Turk Emre Mor. They are all looking to compete with the established first team quartet of Marco Reus, Andre Schurrle, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the recently returned Mario Gotze.
