Real Madrid’s 24 year old midfielder has rubbished all possibilities of a deadline day move to Malaga or Tottenham. The midfielder will stay on at the Spanish capital despite head coach Zinedine Zidane hinting at a possible departure.
Tottenham prepared a late swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Isco who along with James Rodriguez hasn’t featured regularly for Real Madrid. Spanish Daily AS reported that Spurs and Malaga (Isco’s old club) were interested in securing his services on loan. Reports from England, mainly Evening Standard also corroborated the story earlier today.
However both Goal and Daily Mail reports now that the 24-year-old Spaniard is set to stay with Real despite lack of match time. Isco made 31 La Liga appearances last season, netting three times and providing seven assists for his Real Madrid team-mates.
Coach Zinedine Zidane had earlier voiced uncertainty as to whether the creative playmaker would stay on or leave in search for regular playing time abroad (via Goal). But the Spanish International has reportedly assured the local media – “”I’m staying, I’m staying.” (via ESPNFC).
He is set to honour his contract which is active till June 2018. Earlier last summer he had turned down a move to Juventus when the Turin based club was looking to sign an advanced midfielder to strengthen their squad.
Spurs Look to Sissoko
Although Spurs were unable to progress in the Isco negotiations, they are still making a strong push for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko. Spurs are reluctant to meet the Magpies’ £30m valuation for the midfielder and recently their £11m bid was rejected.
Sky Sources now understand that Spurs are attempting to pay the transfer fee in installments over a period of 5 years. It was earlier reported that Sissoko had left the French camp to complete his transfer proceedings (via ESPNFC). The 27-year-old has strongly expressed his desire to leave Newcastle on a couple of occasions.
This is understandable since a Euro Cup finalist cannot be expected to play for a Championship division side. But Newcastle are unwilling to let him go for a nominal fee just yet, especially after his performances in the Euro final.
