Manchester United and Bayern Munich have reportedly sent scouts to France to observe Bordeaux and Uruguay forward Diego Rolan.
According to French radio station RMC (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United and Bayern Munich’s scouts were in attendance to watch Bordeaux attacker Diego Rolan in action against French side Nantes.
It is also reported that scouts of Norwich City and Brighton were present during the game to take a glimpse of the 23-year-old. Birmingham Mail has stated that Premier League outfit Everton and Championship side Aston Villa are also interested in signing the striker.
The Uruguayan talisman has made a stellar start to the season as he has already scored twice in the club’s three league games thus far. Since moving to Bordeaux three-and-a-half years ago, Rolan has found the back of the net on 30 occasions in 119 appearances.
The 23-year-old burst onto the scene at the under-20 South American Championships in 2013, where he scored four goals and was one of the standout performers of the tournament. He guided his Uruguyan side to a third-placed finish in Argentina.
Due to Luis Suarez’s biting incident at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he was suspended from competing in the Copa America the following year. Looking for a quality striker to replace the Barcelona forward, head-coach Oscar Tabarez included Rolan as a part of his 23-man-squad. He has since won a total of 17 international caps and has managed to score on three occasions.
Jose Mourinho recently made it clear that he is done with his business this summer, but may still make a late swoop for Rolan. Also, with reserve striker Will Keane set to leave on loan, the Bordeaux striker can be a like-for-like replacement.
Rolan is an energetic and pacey striker and is a lethal presence inside the 18-yard-area. His range of passing is impressive and he is also a decent dribbler of the ball. Given his style of play, he could quickly adapt to the fast and physical nature of the game in England’s top tier.
