Transfer News: Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho rejects loan move to Stoke City

Mamadou Sakho has not exactly been in manager Jurgen Klopp’s good books. Indiscipline on Sakho’s part has led to a fallout and the German manager is ready to offload the defender and instead give more playing time to Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan.

Sakho has not had the best of starts to the new season. After helping Liverpool reach the Europa League final last season, Sakho was apparently caught doping and was subsequently banned.

Although he was later given a clean chit and the ban recently was overturned, he is not exactly in Klopp’s good books, especially after being sent home by him in the middle of Liverpool’s pre-season tour in U.S.A., on disciplinary grounds. So far, he is yet to even feature in a match day squad.

So before the transfer window shuts on Wednesday, Klopp would be more than happy to loan out last season’s star defender. However, it seems that Sakho wants to establish himself at Liverpool and is rejecting loan opportunities from elsewhere.

Most recently, Sakho turned down an offer from Stoke City for a loan move. Both Stoke City and Liverpool need Sakho as neither teams have kept a clean sheet so far and have the worst defense as of now.

This may turn out to be in favour of Sakho, who clearly does not want to leave Merseyside. His strong presence is exactly what Liverpool need in their back-line and with them leaking goals, Klopp might be forced to turn to Sakho to stabilize the Liverpool defence.

A loan move for him may not be the ideal situation for Liverpool.

At the moment, it looks like the player is not part of Klopp’s plan and with the recent rejection of Stoke City’s advances, it remains to be seen how much game time he gets at Anfield should he stay on.

Stoke, on their part, have given up on Sakho and have now turned their attention to Manchester United defender Phil Jones to solve their defensive issues.

It will be interesting to see how Sakho’s future pans out.
